Actor Temuera Morrison's lakefront property has been sold for more than $1 million under the original asking price.
Morrison's property at Kawaha Point, Rotorua sold at auction this week after being on the market since 2008.
Morrison earlier said he had put the five-bedroom lodge, three-bedroom cottage, pool, private jetty and 2.5ha of land up for tender because his money would be better used elsewhere until the Hollywood film industry regained momentum.
Morrison has since featured in several films, including Couples Retreat, The Marine 2, Tracker and Green Lantern but the house has remained on the market.
The property sold at auction on Wednesday afternoon.
First National auctioneer Murray Piesse said the property was sold for $975,000. When the house first went on the market, Morrison described it as a $2 million property.
In a recent Daily Post Property Guide the house was said to have had a Government valuation of $1,335,000.
Mr Piesse said five other auctions were also held the same day as the auction for Morrison's property.
"There were quite a few people there but I am unsure how many would have been there for that specific property."
He said a couple of people took part in the bidding for Morrison's house.
"I wouldn't say bidding was fierce but it was definitely steady."
Mr Piesse couldn't reveal any details about the buyers but said both vendors and purchasers were happy with the outcome.
In previous years Morrison's house has been used as the location for a music video for Kiwi band 1814 and hosted parties for performers at the Raggamuffin musical festival.
