Mystery Thames hotel on market

The Brian Boru Hotel in Thames goes under the hammer at the end of this month.

The two-storey hotel, with 24 rooms and an adjoining 15-unit motel, became famous for its Agatha Christie-style murder mystery weekends, in which guests were invited to take part.

The original hotel, named after a 10th century Irish king, was built in 1867.

The motel was built in 1984.

The Brian Boru is owned by Barbara Doyle of Thames, who also leased the Fisherman's Wharf restaurant in Auckland.

Money problems forced Auckland financial company Reeves Moses to put the hotel into receivership, and the Fisherman's Wharf closed in August.

The Brian Boru will be auctioned in Bayleys' new Maritime Square offices on November 22.
