Luxury lodge for a cool $12m

Awaroa Lodge in Abel Tasman National Park is on the market with a $12 million price tag.

Built in 1991, the 26-unit lodge can be accessed only by sea, air or foot.

Christchurch property developer Phil Burmester, Kimberly's fashion chain owner John McLaughlan and construction company head John Mulholland paid $2.7 million for the lodge in 2002.

Colliers International of Wellington, which is marketing the property, says the owners are selling because they want to pursue other interests.

In 2005, Awaroa Lodge won awards for the best-marketed hotel in New Zealand and innovation in eco-tourism.
