Auckland's top builders have rallied together to build a home that will be auctioned to aid the Starship Children's Hospital.
Members of the Auckland Registered Master Builders Association Inc have donated their skills to build the house, which will be sold at the Auckland Home Show.
The money raised will helpbuy equipment at the Starship for children with serious heart problems.
The project manager for this year's home, Eric Miller, says master builders are committed to the charity house because Starship is a superb cause.
"No one likes to see young children suffering at all, so anything we can do to assist the hospital is great.
"We are involved in our communities and this is another practical way of showing it."
L.J. Hooker will auction the colonial cottage-style home on Sunday. There is no reserve price, so the top bidder claims the new house.
It boasts cedar cladding, copper spouting and cedar shingles on the exterior, a new New Zealand-designed metal roofing system, and Tasmanian tongue-and-groove flooring inside. It is complete with cedar blinds and drapes and is furnished by Danske Mobler. The interior has been fully coordinated by a leading Auckland colour consultant.
This year's charity house will, Mr Miller says, undoubtedly be one of most expensive seen at the Home Show. It will be luxuriously fitted out.
Cardiac services will, in three years, be transferred from Green Lane Hospital to the Starship to stop young patients having to travel constantly between the two facilities.
