The freehold land, buildings and going concern business of the Hotel Carlton Mill in Christchurch are on the market for the first time in almost 50 years.

Comprising 27 accommodation units and a conference facility, the high-profile site at 15-17 Bealey Avenue is adjacent to the Carlton Mill Bridge.

It includes well-known restaurant Strawberry Fare, which operates under a separate lease.

The motel was opened in 1972 with the hotel business added in 1985.

Philip Cooper, investment sales broker at Colliers International in Christchurch, says the property would appeal to investors and operators alike.

"The property is for sale as a freehold going concern, however, an investor may wish to further seek an operator to run the accommodation business under a new lease.

"Hotel Carlton Mill is highly visible to passing traffic and has been a landmark in Christchurch for decades.

"The location is superb. It's within walking distance to the city and the adjacent precincts of Victoria Street and Merivale, as well as being a stone's throw from Hagley Park," Cooper says.

The total land area is 2023sq m and incorporates 25 on-site carparks.

The property is for deadline sale closing at 4pm on August 15, unless sold earlier.
