When Shirin and Keith were hunting for an apartment, location was important.
As Shirin says: "We were looking for something close to the city, especially when our child was going to university and later possibly for our retirement."
They bought into The Chatham building in Pitt St because of itscentral position. They also liked the fact that the complex wasn't too large with only 48 apartments over eight levels with ground floor retail and four levels of basement car parking.
Completed in 2009, The Chatham sits next door to Pitt St Methodist Church and among other heritage buildings near the top of the K Rd ridge with views back over the city. Architecture firm Ashton Mitchell designed a contemporary building with a character facade to tie it in with its neighbours.
Shirin says the sixth-floor apartment is north-facing, spacious, warm and bright. The fact that it has two bathrooms rather than one to go with its two bedrooms was also attractive.
She says the wide views over the city and the proximity to Myers Park add to the appeal.
Entry brings you into the kitchen, which is tucked into one corner of the apartment with the second bedroom to the right. This room has sliding doors on one corner that can be pulled back to open it to the living space.
From the kitchen you move through to the open-plan dining space and lounge area and then out to the covered north-facing balcony with views over the city.
To the left of the living space are two side-by-side bathrooms and a laundry behind sliding doors.
The master bedroom, like the second bedroom, has a walk-in wardrobe and the doors are configured so it can have private access to the second bathroom. It also has doors opening to the balcony.
Being just off K Rd, the apartment has terrific amenities nearby such as cafes and shops.
The couple now have other commitments and are selling reluctantly. Shirin says the future looks bright for the area with a train station going in as part of the City Rail Link and the planned upgrading of K Rd.
