KidsCan need your help to give Kiwi kids access to the basics this winter.
We're in the middle of winter, and KidsCan need our help to give children around the country access to the basics such as food, shoes and raincoats.
There's been no let-up in schools applying for KidsCanassistance over the past 12 months with more than 70 schools from all 16 regions of the country joining as KidsCan partner schools.
This Winter The children's charity still needs more than 1,500 caring Kiwi's willing to donate just $20 per month to ensure children in our communities receive the basics with 13 schools currently on the waiting list. That equates to more than 2,000 children waiting to access KidsCan's Food, Shoes, Raincoats and Health and Hygiene programmes as winter hits home.
According to the latest information released by the Office of the Children's Commissioner 135,000 Kiwi kids or 12 percent of our children (aged 0-17) miss out on seven or more things they need for their wellbeing. Those missed essentials include postponed visits to the doctor, a pair of shoes, or adequate warm clothing. Many families are spending a great proportion of their income on rent, leaving not enough money for other bills, food and necessities such as transport and clothing.
About: In the first 6 months of 2018, KidsCan had distributed: -77,648 health and hygiene items (including feminine hygiene items) -27,458 raincoats -14,769 pairs of shoes
The charity feeds 29,000 children a week, most of whom need KidsCan food daily. Over the past five years, on average KidsCan has gone from feeding 11 percent of a school roll to 21 percent.
