Tomasel’s friends and colleagues piled into the comments expressing delight at the news.
Madeleine Sami said, “Congratssss legends!” while Toni Street said, “I was listening to this live... congratulations you two”.
The Hits Breakfast host Ben Boyce said, “Oh this is the best news ever! Like the Warriors it’s your year! Much love to you both”, while Tomasel’s co-host Clint Roberts said, “WHAT?!?”.
The couple met in 2018 on a dating app and they told Woman’s Day in 2023 the romance began with Tomasel asking, “Are you good at maths?”
“She always makes fun of my first line I wrote on the app. But it clearly worked,” Tomasel said.
The pair’s conversation led to a first date at a bar on Auckland’s Karangahape Rd, with Tomasel telling Woman’s Day the romance was “a slow burn”.
“We didn’t rush into anything. We were both a bit guarded as we didn’t want to get hurt. But after that, we ended up hanging out pretty constantly.
“Sophia’s one of the most loyal people I’ve ever met. We all go through some s***ty situations, hard relationships, break-ups or whatever, but I’ve never felt like Sophia would ever do something like that to me, which is something so rare.”
Gould described Tomasel to Woman’s Day as “super-loving and generous”.
“She’s so giving to everyone, not just me. And obviously she’s hilarious. Whenever I’m sad, she does a dance!”
