Youth on manslaughter charge after party death

A 16-year-old youth was due in court today on a manslaughter charge after the death of a man following a party in the south Auckland suburb of Otara eight days earlier.

The youth has been charged with causing the death of Otara man Richard Hamilton, 35.

He died in hospital on Monday after apparently being punched to the ground at the party in Otara.

Police were not called to the party.

The accused youth was due to appear in the Manukau District Court.
