Parents are being warned to watch their kids in the Auckland suburb of Newmarket after an alleged assault on a young girl as she walked to school this morning.
Principal of Newmarket Primary School Wendy Kofoed sent a message to parents today warning them of the incident on Gillies Avenue,involving a child from another school.
She said Newmarket Primary had been informed of an alleged assault on a young girl as she walked to nearby Auckland Normal Intermediate School about 8.15am.
"If your child walks home along Gillies Avenue or in the Alper's Avenue, Kipling Road vicinity we would recommend that you drop your child off at school and collect your child from school until the person is apprehended," she wrote in a school notice to parents.
"Today school staff ensured all students who walk home in this area were accompanied by an adult."
Newmarket Primary School sent a message today to parents warning them of the incident.
An Auckland police spokesman said police had received a complaint about an alleged incident in the area this morning involving an 11-year-old girl, and were investigating.
No further details were available at this time.
Acting principal of nearby Epsom Girls Grammar School Karen Smith said she was aware of the incident but was waiting to hear back from police before commenting further.
