Rathkeale College pupil Finn Yeats was named one of two junior Harvey World Travel Athletes of the Meeting after the New Zealand secondary schools track and field championships in Hamilton this month.

Yeats was accorded that honour after blitzing his rivals in both the junior boys 100m and 200m events, winning his heat, quarter-final, semifinal and final in each of them.

His time in the 100m final of 11.06s gave him a winning advantage of 0.15s. In the 200m event, he had all of 0.41s to spare after he clocked 22.36s.

The other junior award went to Daniel Hoy, of Westlake Boys High, who won the 1500m in a record 3m 58.50s and the 3000m in 8:56.96.

A New Zealand secondary schools "paper team" was named at the end of the meet and it included Wairarapa College duo Katie Smith and Alison Andrews-Paul, and Alex Howden of Makoura College.
