Yacht crashes onto rocks at Waiheke Island

A 30 foot yacht crashed on to rocks at Waiheke Island with two people on board.

Johnny Clough of the Coastguard Operations Centre said the two people on board suffered cuts and bruises in the incident.

The people on board issued a mayday alert about 6.15pm yesterday and two Coastguard vessels responded.

"The boat had hit rocks near Park Point," Mr Clough said.

"Conditions were testing ... I would say it's an unusual place to park," he said.

A police maritime unit responded to the incident, Mr Clough said.
