Rupert Murdoch says News Corp will start charging for access to the global media group's online news content after the success of the Wall Street Journal's subscription website.

And the Financial Times is reportedly in talks to introduce a "pay-per-article" system inspired by the Apple iTunes model, which could change the culture of reading news on the internet.

In NZ, NBR has already started a subscription model for some of its online content and the New York Times has been canvassing readers to see if they would pay per week to read their online site.
