Worker dies after being trapped under beam

A man has died in a workplace accident in Canterbury after being trapped under a beam.

The accident happened in the Izone Business Park in Rolleston around lunchtime and involved a 58-year-old man.

Police were also called to the scene after receiving reports that the man had been trapped under a beam.

A St John spokesperson said two ambulances arrived at the scene on Westland Place at about 12.30pm, but were not required.

The man died at the scene.

A WorkSafe spokesperson said they were made aware of an incident in Rolleston.

"Inspectors are at the site now and we are investigating. We have no further information."
