Police are investigating after a woman's body was found by a river in Southland yesterday.
Constable Tim Cook said the death of the 50-year-old woman was being treated as suspicious.
Her body was found at about 3pm on Sunday, beside the Makarewa River in Makarewa, 11km north of
Invercargill, Mr Cook said.
The body was covered by a tent overnight and a scene examination would be carried out today.
The woman had last been heard from on Saturday when she made a phone call at 1.50pm.
Police discovered her body after a member of the public called to alert them to the presence of her car, which was found at the scene.
