Police attend the scene where two people were taken to Middlemore Hospital following a stabbing incident on Willis Road in Papakura on Friday afternoon.
A woman with stab wounds ran onto the road carrying a baby and screaming for help this afternoon, a witness has described.
Streets surrounding Willis Rd, Papakura are closed after a stabbing there about 12.25pm.
Daljinder Pangly told the Herald he was outside a nearby dairy when he saw anAsian woman in her 30s running towards him screaming for help and carrying a baby.
"She just ran out and was asking for help and I was outside the shop and I just ran to her and got the baby from her arms.
"I held the baby from her first, then someone else took the baby form me and I was helping he lady. Two or three ladies came and were helping, too."
In a statement, police said the 31-year-old woman was taken to Middlemore Hospital in a critical condition. Her condition was later downgraded to serious and her injuries are not believe to be life-threatening.
A 16-year-old boy was also taken to hospital with moderate injuries.
The scene was cordoned off for a time and motorists were asked to avoid Willis and Kelvin Rds and Sheehan Ave.
There was no risk to the public, the statement said.
