Woman robbed at gunpoint in Palmerston North

A woman was threatened with a firearm during a "violent and unacceptable" aggravated robbery at a Palmerston North bar last night.

Police said a female employee was locking up at the The Sportsman Bar on Featherston St when two men forced their way into the establishment about 9.10pm.

The men made off with an unknown amount of cash and quickly fled the scene.

Detective Senior Sergeant Simon Harrison said the victim contacted police after the "violent and unacceptable crime".

He said the woman was not physically hurt but was left shaken.

Victim Support was helping the woman.

Police are carrying out a scene examination at the bar this morning.

They would like to speak with anyone who might have observed any suspicious activity around the Sportsman Bar between 8.45pm and 9.30pm.
