Woman killed in Waimate crash named

Police have named the young Dunedin woman who died in a crash in South Canterbury on Monday.

She was Rosie Ann Crozier, aged 21.

Two other people were seriously injured following the two-vehicle crash on the Waimate Highway, at Morven, just after 7.30pm.

Police said they extend their sympathies to the family and friends of Crozier.

The Serious Crash Unit is continuing to investigate the crash at the intersection of Barnetts Rd and State Highway 1.

Two ambulances and two helicopters were deployed. The injured were flown to Dunedin Hospital.

The death brought the official holiday weekend road toll to three.

This was a big improvement on the same period last year, when 11 people were killed in eight fatal crashes, resulting in the highest road toll since 1989, when there were 13 deaths.

On Friday night, 22-year-old Jonathan Knuiman from Napier was hit by a car on SH2, north of Napier Airport, and died.

The driver of the car had been speaking with police and the Serious Crash Unit had been investigating but there were no further updates last night.

A 17-year-old woman died after a car rolled down a bank on State Highway 35, north of Te Araroa, near Gisborne.

A 1-year-old was also taken to Waikato Hospital in a critical condition.
