Woman killed in serious crash in Horowhenua

A woman is dead after a car crash in Horowhenua overnight.

Emergency services were called to the fatal crash on State Highway 57 between Shannon and Levin just before 11pm.

Police said the woman was alone in the car when it crashed.

No other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Police closed the highway for much of the night, and diverted vehicles around rural roads.

The road has now reopened.

The Central District Police Serious Crash Unit are investigating the crash.
