A woman has died after being struck by a train in Christchurch this morning.

Canterbury Police say they are attending a serious incident at the rail crossing at the intersection of Main South and Kirk Rds in Templeton.

A female had been hit by a train and died as a result of her injuries.

Police said entry to Kirk Rd was closed at present but Main South Rd was still open.

The victim's family were yet to be told about the accident and no further details were available.
