Woman injured in chainsaw fire

A woman is in a serious condition in Dunedin Hospital after the chainsaw she was using erupted in flames.

The incident happened at around 5.30pm yesterday at the Wedderburn Old School accommodation area, northwest of Ranfurly.

It appears she was filling up her chainsaw when it caught alight.

The 45-year-old sustained severe burns to her legs, arms, back and torso.

She was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital in a critical condition.

Police and the Fire Service are investigating.
