A woman suffered serious injuries last night after a truck smashed into an Auckland overbridge, scattering 30 tonnes of pet food across the road.
The accident happened on the Southern Motorway under the Redoubt Rd overbridge about 9.28, police said.
A car lost control by the motorway on-ramp, knocking alight pole into the path of the truck in lane one. The truck hit the pole and crashed into the bridge before colliding with the car, which flipped, flinging a woman out of it.
She was freed from under the truck by Fire Service staff.
Last night she was in Middlemore Hospital with serious leg injuries.
The truck was carrying 30 tonnes of pet food, which was thrown 80m across the motorway.
Meanwhile a woman was seriously injured in a two-car crash on the corner of Kerrs Rd and Great South Rd about 9pm. She was taken to Middlemore Hospital.
