Woman hit by car on Western Bay highway

A woman has been taken to Tauranga Hospital in a serious condition after she was hit by a car on State Highway 29 this afternoon.

The woman was struck by the Poike Rd roundabout in Tauranga about 2pm.

Emergency services closed highway lanes but they have since been re-opened.

Western Bay of Plenty head of road policing Senior Sergeant Ian Campion said the woman was lying on the road when they arrived.

The motorist who allegedly struck the woman stopped and police inquiries were continuing, he said.
