People rushed to help a woman hit by a bus in central Wellington this morning.
Witness Harris Manley told APNZ the 25-year-old woman was wearing earphones and looking at her cellphone when she stepped into the path of the Go Wellington bus in Manners Street about 9.45am.
"She kind ofgot sideswiped by the bus, hit right on the corner, got thrown back and ended up on the sidewalk,'' Mr Manley said.
"She was unconscious for a while. She couldn't really answer any questions when we were talking to her initially but when the paramedics were here, after about 20 minutes or so she was able to get up and get on to the stretcher herself.''
Mr Manley was one of those who rushed to help the woman.
"She had a pillow under her head, a blanket on her ... there were a bunch of people who stopped and helped out where they could,'' Mr Manley said.
"It is good to see people stopping.''
The bus driver was "really shaken up'' but Mr Manley did not believe she was at fault.
"I wouldn't say it was anyone's fault. It was just an accident,'' he said.
Mr Manley has lived in Wellington for a few months and it was the second time he had seen someone hit by a bus.
Runner Venessa Green died in June after stepping into the path of a bus in Willis St _ in a section which was previously one way but was changed to two-way last November.
The woman hit today was the seventh hit by a bus since the changes.
