Woman dies in farming accident

A Southland woman has died in a farm accident this morning.

Senior Sergeant Dave Rayne says the incident happened when grain was being transferred from a truck to a grain silo on a farm in the Waikaka Valley area near Gore.

He said emergency services from Gore were called to the scene about 9am.

As the result of what is believed to be a mechanical failure, the 48-year-old woman received head injuries and died at the scene.

Sergeant Rayne said the woman's name was not yet available for release but she was a local.

She had been working alongside her husband.

Police and OSH are investigating.

The matter has also been referred to the coroner.
