Woman dies after car catches fire in road crash

A woman died when her car caught fire following a two-car crash in Waikato this morning.

The crash happened about 8.30am at Kereone Road in Morrinsville, 32km northeast of Hamilton.

Waikato Fire Service support officer Callan Stewart said the victim, a young woman, was the driver of one of the cars.

"The vehicle with the deceased was on fire when we arrived," Mr Stewart said.

"We had to extract the deceased once the fire was out."

Mr Stewart said the driver of the other vehicle had been taken to hospital.

Investigators were looking into the cause of the crash and the fire.
