An 80-year-old woman is dead following a collision between a car and a van near Timaru this afternoon.
Emergency services were called to the scene near the intersection of State Highway 1 and Arowhenua Station Rd around 2.30pm.
The woman was critically injured and was transported with her male passenger
to Timaru Hospital, where she later died from her injuries.
The man's condition was not known.
Diversions have been put in place at the crash site and the Serious Crash Unit is investigating the incident.
