A 34-year-old woman was killed when the car she was driving hit a tree near Clevedon last night.
The fatal accident happened on North Rd, 3-4km from the rural town south east of Auckland at about 10.30pm, said Senior Sergeant Emiel Logan.
"The car left the road and struck atree and the sole occupant has unfortunately died at the scene,'' he said.
Police were contacting the next of kin.
The Serious Crash Unit was carrying out a scene examination to establish the speed the car was travelling at, and the woman's blood alcohol level would be tested, said Senior Sergeant Logan.
