A 36-year old man will also appear in the same court this morning charged with murder.
Counties Manukau Police said yesterday they had arrested a 36-year-old Otara steelworker and charged him with the murder of Mr Davis and wounding his cousin with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Detective Inspector Dave Lynch said earlier it appeared an argument over music sparked the confrontation.
"I can't rule out the possibility of further charges or arrests but time will tell.
"The investigation is ongoing and we'd appreciate any assistance we can get from anyone who thinks they have information."
Emergency services were called to the Otara property just before 1am.
On arrival, police officers found Mr Davis dead on the driveway at the front of the property.
Police have recovered a knife at an address in Otara and are not looking for any other weapons. They are not looking for anyone else over the incident.
The same street was the scene of another family tragedy around Christmas 2006.
Then, a mother of five was found dead in her home with serious injuries after a domestic incident.
