Woman charged over illegal fight night

A fundraising fight night for a karate club has landed a Foxton woman in the Levin District Court, charged with running an illegal fight.

Police charged Donna Tua, a 37-year-old Foxton beneficiary, with holding a boxing contest without a licence.

Police said the contestants were boxing, not participating in martial arts.

Martial arts contests did not need a licence.

The hearing was adjourned until February 4.
