Police are calling for witnesses who sighted either of two cars in the minutes before the vehicles collided in a crash that killed a young woman driver near Masterton a week ago Friday.
Masterton traffic policing sergeant Chris Megaw said the cell phones of both drivers also were being scrutinised,as was standard practice, for the timing of any text messages sent in the moments before the collision.
Mr Megaw said the results of blood alcohol tests were also expected this week in relation to the crash.
Shannon Buick, 23, was killed after the orange Nissan she was driving collided head-on with a white VW Golf vehicle on Paierau Rd near Masterton soon after 6pm a week ago on Friday.
The 24-year-old male driver of the VW received moderate internal injuries in the crash and was taken to Wairarapa Hospital, while Shannon's sister, Kaitlin Buick, 16, was seriously injured in the collision and underwent emergency surgery in Wellington Hospital.
Mr Megaw said both vehicles had come to rest in the northbound lane of Paierau Rd and police were especially eager to speak to two passers-by who stopped at the scene to help in the wake of the crash.
The driver of a vehicle the VW car had overtaken shortly before the collision was also being sought.
"We are wanting to talk with anybody who had any driving issues caused by the white VW or the orange Nissan before the collision," Mr Megaw said.
