Wintery blasts continue for central and top of South

The cold snap bringing snow showers to low levels Southland and Otago will ease today but wintry blasts are still expected for the Central North Island, Canterbury and Marlborough.

MetService is forecasting a southwest airstream will continue over southern and central New Zealand.

Hail and snow will hit the Central North Island plateau and the south and west of the South Island.

MetService has good news for West Coasters. The skies from Hokitika to Doubtful Sound will start to clear today while the bad weather heads east to Canterbury and Marlborough.

Motorists have been warned to watch for ice on the roads.
