Ben Winder made a successful debut appearance at a Ruamahanga Ramblers' event when he recorded fastest time in the 5km open handicap race held from Matarawa Hall on Tuesday.
Invariably it has been Michael Macklin who has called the tune in that regard but Winder had 31s to spareon him this time.
There was surprise when handicapper Paul Furkert reached the finish line well ahead of the rest. Sharp improvements time-wise were made by runner Dean McDougall and walker Lorraine Moloney and it is a safe bet their future handicaps will be adjusted accordingly.
