Jetstar flights have been delayed after an aircraft was hit by a baggage container caught in a large wind gust as it was about to leave the terminal at Wellington Airport this morning.

The engine of the 8.20am flight for Auckland was hit by the container, causing the flight to be cancelled, Radio New Zealand reported.

Some passengers asked for refunds but most had been re-booked on other flights.

Jetstar said engineers were assessing damage to the plane and the incident would cause delays on other flights today.
