Dominique Aitcheson said she had lived at the house for four years and the sedan with minor damage was her husbands.
Her husband had heard two loud bangs and looked out his window to see a neighbour running to help people from the car on its side in the driveway.
The couple were on their way to visit a relation for Mother's Day, Mrs Aitcheson said.
The car was positioned in the "exactly the same spot" to another crash about two years ago when a drunk driver had "cornered too fast", she said.
Ravensbourne Chief Fire Officer Ross Bryant said he attended the crash, which was similar to another crash he attended in the driveway about 10 years ago, when a motorist was blinded by sun strike.
The husband had remained "cool and calm" after the accident when the wife was "upset and injured".
A St John spokeswoman said a person with minor injuries was taken to Dunedin Hospital.
