Who owns this superyacht? The $120m question

A multimillion-dollar luxury superyacht anchored off Queen's Wharf is drawing extra attention to Auckland's waterfront.

The Ocean Victory can be seen from the Viaduct and has been there for a number of days.

A superyacht broker said yesterday it was hard to estimate exactly how much the yacht was worth, having not been inside to inspect it.

But given its size, it could be worth anything from $60 to $120 million, she said.

The yacht flies the Cayman Islands' maritime flag, which features a red background. It was built by Feadship Royal Dutch Shipyards in the Netherlands and boasts a giant beach platform, health club, gymnasium, sauna, steam room, massage room and swimming pool.

On the Vessel Tracker website, it is listed as a "pleasure craft" measuring 76m in length.

Down at the wharf, workers said the yacht had attracted a lot of public attention over the past few days.

One worker said he understood the superyacht was owned by "the man who has just bought part of the Warriors [rugby league team]" - Owen Glenn.

However, a spokeswoman for the Glenn family said that was "definitely" not the case.

Waterfront Auckland was also keeping tight-lipped about the identity of the owner.

Spokesman Luke Henshall said he could only confirm that the yacht was owned by a foreign businessman.

"There are privacy issues ... the marine industry, they're staunch on this.

"I can safely say it's not [someone famous]. You will never have heard of him.

"It's definitely not a celeb - just a rich man from a place overseas."

It is understood the luxury yacht underwent maintenance at the Superyacht Support facility in St Mary's Bay.

A worker there said yesterday they could not speak about those details but was adamant that the owner was not famous.

She said the yacht was anchored at sea as all Auckland's berths were full because of the Volvo Ocean Race stopover in Auckland tomorrow.

"A lot of the boats have had to move out of their docks because of the Volvo," she said.
