What is Supplementary Member?

Supplementary Member (SM)
Under the SM voting system, small parties are likely to be represented in parliament but their total share of seats will usually be smaller than their total share of the votes.

One of the larger parties is likely to win more than half the seats and, more often than not, that party can govern on its own. Coalitions and support agreements are occasionally needed.
