What is Single Transferable Voting?

Single Transferable Voting (STV)
Under STV it is likely that the parties' share of seats in parliament will roughly reflect their share of the total votes. Smaller parties and independents with strong local support can be elected to parliament and governments are often made up of more than one party in coalition or with support agreements.
