Whangarei car crash leaves one dead

One person is dead following a single car crash near Whangarei this afternoon.

Police said emergency services were on their way to the single car crash on State Highway 1, just north of the Ruakaka turnoff.

The crash happened about 3.40pm when a northbound car rolled to the south bound side of the road, police said.

One person died in the crash.

Police said motorists should expect delays as traffic diversions would be put in place, through Port Marsden Highway, Salle Rd, and Marsden Point Rd.

The serious crash unit would be attending the scene, police said.
