Two rescued from Whangaparāoa cliff after dropping headphones

Two people have been rescued after becoming stuck on a cliff face near Auckland’s Whangaparāoa Peninsula.

Police rushed to a cliff on Whangaparāoa Rd, Tindalls Beach at 2.50pm on Wednesday after reports of people stuck.

Police have confirmed the pair are now safe and on the ground.

Both people became stuck and were unable to get back up the cliff after climbing down to retrieve the pair of headphones they dropped, police said.

Earlier, police said their Eagle helicopter was monitoring the pair’s location and had confirmed neither had been injured.

Fire and Emergency New Zealand said they were responding with five fire trucks, including a specialist line rescue team.

Residents on local Facebook pages reported seeing a large presence of emergency services.

One local said they saw two life support vehicles, four police, three fire engines and multiple ambulances.
