Whangamata Beach has reopened after a shark was spotted near Clark Island earlier today.
Whangamata Surf Life Saving Club vice patrol captain Max Jones said the beach was closed at 12.45pm after a lifeguard sighted a shark in the ocean.
The beach was promptly closed, but reopened an hour later
after no further sightings.
Jones said the shark was seen between the surf club and Clark Island.
