Wet Easter Weekend predicted

Showers are expected as Easter approaches.

It might be a wet Easter egg hunt this year as rainy weather is predicted to strike much of the country this Easter Weekend.

Many Kiwis are taking advantage of Easter Monday and Anzac Day falling in the same week.

Taking just three days' leave secures a 10-day break. But the Easter long weekend is looking damp in most of New Zealand.

MetService forecaster David Miller said a low pressure system was expected to head in from Australia later this week.

Rain was possible for the South Island's West Coast as well as Nelson, Wellington and other central New Zealand locations.

The MetService long-range forecast has showers in store for Auckland from Good Friday to Easter Monday. Wellington had an ever greater likelihood of rain on Good Friday.

WeatherWatch forecasters said warm weather was likely to continue for the next few days.

Showers and "rain makers" were expected as Easter approached. The low pressure system's trajectory was tough to predict but Kiwis could now expect typical autumn temperatures.
