GREYMOUTH - A rock hurled through the window of the Blackball Store carried a death threat, police say.
The window of the only shop in town was smashed between Tuesday and Wednesday night, Constable Rose Green, of Greymouth police, said.
A threatening note was attached to the rock.
"Inquiries are continuing," she said.
The store owner, who declined to be named, said today it was a hard time for him and he declined to comment further.
However, he told Newstalk ZB radio that he suspected the threat stemmed from an assault charge he instigated against a Blackball man three weeks ago.
He was treating it as serious because he feared the culprit worked at a West Coast mine, and had access to explosives.
