West Coast police widen hunt for missing teen

West Coast police have widened their hunt for a teenager who has been missing for nearly a week.

Liam Stirling was on a bus going from Haast to Greymouth last Wednesday, when he got off while it was stopped at Paringa.

The 15-year-old was later seen walking south along State Highway 6 towards Haast.

Police believe he may be trying to reach Dunedin or Mosgiel.

A police spokeswoman said at this stage there's no "search as such" but police are seeking sightings.

She said they were conducting inquiries over the lower South Island to establish where he may be.
