West Auckland woman killed in head-on crash

Police say a woman driver killed after being hit by a car travelling on the wrong side of the road was the only reported death on New Zealand roads over the weekend.

A police spokesman told NZPA the 48-year-old woman from Waimauku in west Auckland died at the scene of the accident on State Highway 16 near Huapai, 2km northwest of Kumeu.

The driver of the other car was taken to Auckland Hospital with injuries.

The spokesman said the man had recently spent some time in Germany, where vehicles are driven on the right-hand side of the road.
