Woman dead, man in court following alleged assault in Paraparaumu

A woman has died in Paraparaumu following reports of a late-night assault.

Police today announced they were launching an investigation and have arrested a man over the alleged assault, Kāpiti-Mana Area Commander Inspector Renée Perkins said.

Police were called to a propery on Chums Rd about 9.50pm to a report of an assault.

“Despite the best efforts of police and other emergency services, the woman has sadly died at the scene,” Perkins said.

A 31-year-old man, known to the woman, was arrested last night and is expected to appear in the Porirua District Court today charged with assault and breach of protection order.

“Police would like to advise the public that there will be an increased police presence in the area as the investigation continues and that we believe there is no ongoing risk to the public,” Perkins said.

“Police are also working to support the family of the victim and offer our sincere condolences.”
