Spark services in Wellington restored after ‘outage’ cuts mobile, wireless broadband

Spark says mobile and wireless broadband services in Wellington have been restored after a brief “outage” this morning.

Spark confirmed to the Herald just before 11am that services have been “fully restored” after “an issue impacted some cell sites” in the capital.

“At around 9.20am this morning, Spark experienced an issue that impacted some cell sites in the Wellington region,” a Spark spokesperson said.

“This has affected mobile and wireless broadband customers.

“We can confirm that the issue has now been resolved and all services are fully restored.”

In an alert to customers this morning, Spark said mobile customers in Wellington and Wellington City “may be experiencing a loss of voice, data and SMS services”.

“The outage started April 8, 2026 at 9.20am,” Spark said.

“Our techs are working on it and we’ll show a green icon on this map when it’s back up and running.”

The Herald’s journalists in the Wellington press gallery reported that Parliament was among the areas impacted.
