One dead after crash between vehicle and cyclist in Upper Hutt

One person is dead after a crash between a cyclist and a vehicle in the Upper Hutt suburb of Trentham this afternoon.

Emergency services rushed to the scene around 4pm, with the Serious Crash Unit also attending.

The Messines Ave and Seddul Bahr Rd intersection remains closed while the unit makes inquiries.

Diversions were in place and motorists were asked to avoid the area.

A police spokesperson said the death would be referred to the Coroner.
