Leitch said he suffered the fatal injuries during an assault and robbery around 12.30am on March 17 last year in what was part of a premeditated attack.
“The offenders, who stole nothing more than his car keys, then callously left him bleeding and unconscious on the footpath.
“No one has yet been held responsible for his killing, and police are committed to continuing their pursuit of justice for the Nabizadah family.”
Around 2am, police were on their way to a home invasion on nearby Darlington Rd when they found Nabizadah.
Police then arrived at the Darlington Rd property and arrested a 28-year-old man for aggravated burglary.
The investigation team previously identified a connection between Nabizadah’s death and the Darlington Rd burglary.
A cell phone left behind at the Darlington Rd property by the offender was allegedly used to lure Nabizadah to Camperdown Rd, where the assault took place.
“After an extensive investigation, we now believe there was more than one person involved in the plan to rob Mr Nabizadah, and that this may have included the use of a weapon,” Leitch said last October.
John Nabizadah was the first person to see his father in the intensive care unit at Wellington Hospital. He assumed his dad had been in a car crash with his injuries, he told RNZ.
John Nabizadah said his father was harmless, hard-working and kind.
He asked anyone who had any information to come forward.
“We don’t want that person to be walking around the street freely.”
Police say any information could help provide Nabizadah’s family with answers.
“Any information, no matter how small, may make the difference for investigators.”
