A fire has broken out at an auto wreckers in Upper Hutt. Photo / Fire and Emergency NZGorman said police closed the main arterial road about 2pm and people were struggling to get in and out.
He said he felt like emergency services had the fire under control and no neighbours seemed affected.
“The smoke off the fire has been black, black, black but now it is a light grey,” Gorman said.
“Please keep clear of the area and follow directions of crews and other services if you are nearby,” Fire and Emergency said on social media.
“If smoke is affecting your property, stay indoors and close doors and windows.”
Police confirmed no injuries had been reported.
